At the Temple
Everyone is surprised at Sayid's miraculous recovery. Genghis Khan demands to speak to Sayid alone. Jack, predictably, denies them the chance and instead demands answers (get in line Jack!) Sawyer's still got angry face. Pulls a gun on everyone and says adios. The Others want him back. Why exactly? Don't know. But Kate and Jin offer to go find him and bring him back. Only they both have other intentions. Kate still wants to find Claire, and Jin wants to find Sun.
Kate and Sawyer have a heart-to-heart about why Kate came back to the Island. Sawyer reveals his guilt over Juliet's death and through his tears admits that he was going to ask her to marry him. I may have lusted after the man from the beginning of the show. But that scene is the one that sealed my crush. A man professing his love and crying over his grief at her death is incredibly sexy.
Genghis Khan runs some tests on Sayid. Because he's living. After he died. Turns out he's infected. And they enlist Jack to help him take a magic pill. After Sayid professes his undying loyalty and trust in the good ole doc, Jack goes to have his own heart-to-heart with Genghis Khan. And when he tells Jack that he was brought to the Island, Jack still refuses to believe that the Island is his destiny. So he rashly swallows the pill to call their bluff. Genghis Khan admits to it being poison after forcing Jack to cough it up. He then reveals that the infection will remove all semblance of that person. And it happened to Claire.
And then Island Claire makes a return appearance. And girlfriend needs a spa day.
Flash Sideways
Kate gets away from the marshal and kicks Claire out of the cab. Claire's still pregnant. I almost half-expected her to not be given all the other changes in the Losties' lives. Kate feels bad for leaving a pregnant Claire on the side of the street and goes back and makes nice. They go to find the couple adopting Aaron-to-be. And Claire starts to have contractions when she learns the couple will no longer be adopting the baby (which is kinda funny given how long it took her to go into labor on the Island and you could argue that was considerably more stressful). Claire freaks out in the hospital, and Kate grabs a doctor, who turns out, is Ethan (oh hai Ethan!). Now that's kinda creepy. Especially loved the line about how he didn't want to stick her with needles. Claire lies to the cops about Kate. And Kate says she's innocent. Whether that's true or not remains to be seen.
What We Learned
1. The infection was real. Rousseau wasn't crazy. Well she was. But there was a method to her madness. (How did her team get infected? Were they submerged in the spring? Or is there another way to get infected?)
2. Claire is meant to raise Aaron. Plane crash or no.
3. Island Claire is infected. And probably no longer actually Claire. But she's alive. I think.
4. So not so much an answer as another question: Was Ben put into the spring? Does that mean he was infected? Seems not since The Others would have noticed it. And he's not living wild in the jungle. Still curious though.

Dirk
Yesterday morning when Cooper and I were out for a run, we came across a dog with no leash and no owner. Only he didn't turn back around after they played for a bit. I mean it was like he was obsessed with Cooper. He followed us home. The whole mile plus. And wouldn't leave him alone. It made running difficult.
We tried to call the number on his tag only no one answered. So we brought him as I couldn't stand the thought of him wandering around the street. Plus I wasn't sure if he could find his way back home. I mean how many Lassies are there in the world?
After a day of playing, play that was quite, well, er, amorous, and both dogs were passed out on the floor as I cooked dinner, I began to entertain far-reaching dreams of having a second dog to wear out Cooper.

And then the phone rang.
Dirk went back home shortly after that. (Really his name was Puppy, but I thought Dirk fit him much better.) And our house is very quiet once again.

Grey's Anatomy S6ep13
Dawn of a new era. What brought Derek to Seattle in the beginning has finally come true. He's Chief of Surgery. Okay interim, but still Chief. Of course his relationship with Richard could very well be beyond fixing as a result of his ambition. But he's convinced himself he was acting in the best interests of the hospital (you could argue this is true) and his becoming Chief was just a happy result.
Meredith has come so far. A few years ago, when things get hard and she gets mad, she would have left. But now she stays and works through it with Derek.
Alex is also leaps and bounds from where he started out. Remember when he freaked on the elevator and George had to perform an emergency procedure on a patient? Tonight he didn't hesitate. Not only that, he stood up to a patient without getting physical. He's been destined for peds since almost the beginning. Addison thought so. Bailey thinks so. And now so does Arizona.
Owen was definitely trying to use sex to ignore their problem. Except it only worked for so long.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Lexie and Mark BROKE UP. Yes. He is allowed to be hurt that she slept with Alex. Just like Lexie is allowed to be hurt that he had sex with Addison. But you lost the right to act superior over the other because he/she slept with someone else when the relationship ended.
Hilarious that Cristina burned her ass on a vent. Reminds me of graduate school when one of my roommates was so drunk she burned her ass on the radiator pipe in the bathroom. I was the only one willing to bandage it for her. True story.

Book Review: The Heretic's Daughter
The Heretic's Daughter by Kathleen Kent
Disclosure: No one paid me in any way, form or fashion to do this review.
The Heretic's Daughter is a historical fiction novel centered around Martha Carrier, one of the women accused and hanged for witchcraft in Salem in 1692, and her family, told from the perspective of her daughter Sarah. Deeper, it's about the relationship between mother and daughter, a coming of age story resulting in deeper understanding, compassion and respect.
But this story is more than just history, it's family legend. Martha Carrier is grandmother nine generations back to author Kathleen Kent. Stories of Thomas and Martha Carrier have been passed down in her family through the years.
Martha was one of the few women who refused to plead guilty to being a witch. She even went so far as to call out the judges and shame them for believing a group of hysterical teenage girls. She was courageous sticking by her convictions during a time when women didn't stand up for anything. She was outspoken, brash, independent... a ferocious woman who got into multiple disputes with her neighbors. And in the eyes of 17th century New England that equaled witch.
The descriptions were incredible. The emotion so real I cried when they lead Martha out of the jail to be executed. I highly recommend it. Especially if you are - or ever have been - even remotely interested or curious about the Salem witch trials.
My book club had the enormous honor and pleasure to have Kathleen Kent at our discussion of her book (she lives in the area). (P.S. I don't include anyone else's opinion in these book reviews but my own. Yes I wait until after my club's discussion before I post it. Most often because I get a deeper impression of the book - good or bad - during the meeting.) There's something about being able to talk to author about the parts that spoke to you. That you loved. That moved you. For this bibliophile, it is truly a great treat to be able to share those thoughts with the person who created the story.

LOST S6ep1 & 2
Hatch Explosion Crew
Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Jin, Hurley and Sayid find themselves on the Island still, guessing that that the shoestring hydrogen bomb plan didn't work. Only now it appears that they're back in "present time" sometime in 2007. Sawyer has angry face. Like really angry face. Angriest face. "You did this Jack you stupid doctor you." "I'm sorry. I'm an idiot who can't think for myself and don't have a lick of faith in me." Juliet calls out from the rubble in the hatch crater (WAH? I thought this at the end of last season and I still wonder... How the hell did Juliet survive that fall?). They dig her out only for her to die in Sawyer's arms *tear*.
Jacob appears to Hurley and gives instructions on how to save Sayid. (Sayid gets taken to the Temple to get healed from a fatal gunshot wound. Exactly what happened to Young Ben after Sayid shot him. Interesting. Poetic justice? Tragic irony? I can never remember the difference. Still. Highly interesting.) They all take off for the Temple except Sawyer and Miles who stay behind to bury Juliet and Sawyer asks Miles to find out what she wanted to tell him just before she died. Apparently it was "It worked." Presuming that's about the shoestring hydrogen bomb plan.
Crew gets to the temple and creep down into it and see One-Armed French Guy. They get taken by the Others deeper into the Temple. Hey it's Chichen Itza. The Island is Mexico! Ghenghis Khan orders them shot. But wait Jacob sent us! Okay put him in the spring. Oops. We killed him. Shit. Sawyer and Miles join the gang in the spring room. Gotta keep the gang together of course. They request a private audience with Hurley who's like yeah, Jacob's 6 feet under. Didn't ya know? They promptly freak the fuck out. Alarms sound. People are running about securing the Temple-Chichen Itza. They set off a firework and pour ash (gunpowder?) around the edges. To keep Him out. Then they want to talk to Jack privately. Stubborn Jack. Scuffle ensues. Wait. Sayid's alive. Oh double shit.
In the Shadow of the Statue
Ben's in disbelief that he actually killed Jacob. ManInBlack-un-Locke demands to see Richard. Ben relays the message to Richard only to learn that there's a dead body outside the statue that is also Locke. The Aljira Jacob Faithful drag Ben back into the statue to confront MIB-un-Locke, who then turns into the Smoke Monster and throws them around like rag dolls and kills them. MIB-un-Locke-Smokie and Ben have a little chat about what he wants. To go home. And where is that?? Then Richard sees the fireworks from the Temple-Chichen Itza and gets the look of fearest fear in his eyes that grows exponentially at the sight of MIB-un-Locke-Smokie coming out of the Statue. "You?" "Oh hai Richie." And then he beats up Richard and takes off presumably into the jungle towards the Temple.
Flash-whats?
After some major turbulence, Oceanic Flight 815 manages to stay in the air. Wait this looks familiar. But different. We see most of our Losties. Jack. Rose and Bernard. Kate. Hurley. Locke (the real one. I think.). Sawyer. Sayid. Jin and Sun. Plus those that had gone on but wait are still alive. Boone. Charlie (who almost suffocates on a bag of heroin and Dr. Fix-It Jack saves him. Charlie's bitter "I was supposed to die." Yes, you already did Charles.)
Love that they brought back Dr. Arzt. And Frogurt had a cameo! Wonder if we'll see Steve again, er, I mean Scott. Or was it Steve? Hell I can't remember.
And Desmond! Wait!! He wasn't on the original flight. Why would he be on it this time? Not necessarily because he's supposed to be pushing a button (no Island, no button). It just seemed odd. The whole thing. How he appeared suddenly, then disappeared suddenly.
They don't appear to have any memory of the Island and what had happened. Probably more of a bit of deja vu feeling.
Plane lands. At LAX. How fitting it was that Locke and Jack were the last ones off the plane. Oceanic lost Jack's daddy's coffin. Still with those daddy issues. Locke and Jack meet up later and have a conversation about how it was the body and not really his dad who they lost. That was deep, Locke. Then Jack asks him about how he was paralyzed. Locke replies sadly that it's irreversible. According to Jack, nothing's irreversible. Maybe he's finding a bit of faith after all.
Jin and Sun get caught up in customs because Jin can't speak English to explain his business and Sun refuses to admit that she can speak English since she kinda fears her husband. Kate escapes from the Marshal, and we get the briefest of brief glimpses of Claire (Hai Claire!).
Wonder if the shoestring hydrogen bomb plan created an alternate reality.
Things we learned
1. ManInBlack-un-Locke is the Smoke Monster. And you don't want to piss him off.
2. Thou must fear ManInBlack-Smokie.
3. A wooden ankh - an Egyptian hieroglyphic character that means "eternal life" - was in the guitar case and hid a note from Jacob to Ghengis Khan, head of the Temple-Chichen Itza with some instructions.
4. Young Ben was saved from a fatal gunshot wound by drowning in a spring first.
5. I'm sure some other things but right now my mind. is. blown. And I can't think of anything else.

One Track Mind
Attempts to come up with topics for posts not related to the wedding are coming up futile.
This is not a wedding blog. I have no intentions of it being a wedding blog. And yet it seems like that is all I write about other than the usual weekly posts.
It's just because that is pretty much all I have on my mind. Which I should. There's less than three months left to go. And while I'm done with all the big decisions and what's left I know what direction I want to go in, but there's still a matter of executing and making sure everything comes together.
But I've been staring at a blank screen for an hour trying to come up with anything else to say. Turns out, the wedding is all I'm capable of talking about.
I'm sure DF and my family and friends would agree with that statement. Well. Maybe not to my face.

There comes a time when inspiration is no longer needed
I think many brides when they first get engaged - hell, some of us don't wait until we're engaged or even have a boyfriend - pour through wedding magazines. Looking through the pictures dreaming of our special day.
And with the Internets and blogs, there are even more pictures to sigh over.
I stopped looking at magazines about a month or so into our engagement. But I've still been soaking up the blogs. (Some of my favorites: Manolo for the Brides, snippet & ink, A Practical Wedding, The Bride's Cafe, Southern Weddings. And that's just a small sample.)
Except my interest in all the pretty pictures has waned quite a bit lately. I think it's because I'm starting to have such a clear picture of our wedding, and these weddings online - though beautiful - are not mine.
I'm less interested in others weddings. And more interested in my own. As it should be. Though I will still look through all the pictures. Because they are so pretty. And they always look so happy.

Hump Day Humor: The Late Night War
In light of the Conan/Leno/NBC drama, here's The Late Night War, a Ken Burns mockumentary that aired on Jimmy Kimmel Live last week. Truly hilarious.
